    Sieve plates are in phloem so you wouldn’t see them in xylem.

    I assume the water is being transported with tracheids? I dont see any sieve plates just pits. Am I right or wrong?

    This is not true. The maximal hight, up to which tree can “suck up” the water is much differentiated, depends mostly from the diameter of tubes. In case of vessels it is even 20-50 metres. The lower limit is related with “root pomp” what is related with ions active transport. It is below 1 meter mostly.
